Posted by In the July 30, 2015, edition of his Turning Point Daily Devotional, David Jeremiah writes: “At Sutter’s Mill in Coloma, Calif., the California Gold Rush began in 1848. By 1849, 300,000 Forty-Niners were streaming across the country to strike it rich in California. Some sailed from the East Coast, going around the tip of South America to reach California—a five- to eight-month journey. Fifty years later, the frenzy was repeated as 100,000 prospectors left everything to join the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada.
“People often spare no expense to increase their wealth, but the same is not always true concerning wisdom. Solomon used the image of searching for silver and hidden treasures to illustrate the effort required to gain wisdom. Prospecting for gold and silver was hard work—with no promise of reward. By contrast, Solomon said those who seek diligently for God’s wisdom “will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:5-6).
“Seeking God’s wisdom will result in finding something more precious than gold and silver—guaranteed! If we’re going to search on our knees, let it be for wisdom rather than for gold.”
